Gladius Online is a massively multiplayer online game based on the Roman Empire, circa 180AD, and is currently being developed by RedBedlam. Gladius Online features social interaction on a massive scale, freestyle and mission-led gameplay, one on one combat in the Coliseum, tactical warfare on the battlefields of Europe. We have order and civility within the confines of Rome, chaos and lawlessness in the hinterlands of the unoccupied territories.

This is a personal tribute in words and graphics to my favourite time in history. A time of Roman war and Roman peace, of glory and shame, of selflessness and conciet and, finally, of incredible victory and ignominious defeat.

The Romans preserved much of the Greek culture and blended it with their own traditions to give us the Classical ideal. Their military conquests brought an empire to Rome that even surpassed that of Alexander the Great. For nearly a thousand years all roads led to Rome. From a small village on the Tiber River to the greatest Empire the world had ever known, Rome left a rich heritage for all who followed.

Perseus is an evolving digital library, engineering interactions through time, space, and language. Our primary goal is to bring a wide range of source materials to as large an audience as possible. We anticipate that greater accessibility to the sources for the study of the humanities will strengthen the quality of questions, lead to new avenues of research, and connect more people through the connection of ideas.

As a research project in Roman history, each student selected a province of the Roman Empire and learned all he or she could about it. You can view the results of each project by clicking on the province in this map (numbered provinces are active) or in the list below.

Started in 1996 following one of my numerous trips to Rome I felt that with the increasing amount of things I was learning at school I was beginning to be saturated and that without writing it down it may be lost.
I began this part of the website when I was around 15-16 years old. It's five years later and the website is still working well.
