Legio VIIII Hispana (also known as Macedonica from its service in the Balkans) was raised in Spain under Gaius Julius Caesar. They spent some time at Pannania on the Danube and were moved to Siscia in Gaul in AD42 in preparation for the Claudian invasion of Britain in AD43.
