Neptune was the god of the sea. He carried a trident, which had three prongs. He rode a dolphin or a horse. When the sea is rough enough to show white tops to the waves, these are called sea horses.

Neptune is the Roman god of the sea, earthquakes, and the maker of horses. His wife's name was Aphitrite. He had two sons who were Triton and Pegasus. Like Jupiter he had many wives. One them which turned into a horse. Neptune was the oldest of all of his sisters and brothers.
